I will call it metaphysical freedom. In calling it metaphysical freedom, however, I do not mean to imply that it is of interest only to the metaphysi­cian. I believe that this concept is also of importance in everyday life, and that the concept that sex metaphysicians employ is just this everyday concept, or perhaps a refinement of it. I should be willing to argue that all concepts that we employ in philosophy or science or any other area of inquiry are either everyday concepts or explicable in terms of everyday concepts.
